Alhampton Open Gardens

Please note
This event rested in 2018 so we don't have any recent event details. When we get updated information, we'll add it here, but in the meantime we include below event information from a previous year to remind you about the event.

approx 9 gardens opened Alhampton, near Castle Cary, Somerset
Sunday 18th June 2017
1.00pm to 5.00pm

We have one garden open for the first time, with a wildlife pond and an enviable walled garden, plus a couple re-opening after several years rest. Our two famous organic gardeners - Charles Dowding, author of seven books on organic gardening and known for his no-dig method of vegetable growing, and Gert Schley, whose highly individual approach to mixing produce and decorative planting is unique and beautiful, are both open again.

Our other gardens range from the up-to-date to the 140ft yew hedge renovation, to others that are simply beautiful, all hoping to welcome you. One or two gardens you may have already seen have made changes worth looking at. As usual our brilliant bakers will be cooking up a feast to offer fantastic afternoon teas at several venues - if you're not a gardener it's worth a visit for that alone.

Do take the time to visit our 28 acre Haddon Wood, first planted in 2013 and now starting to look a little more like a wood. Also see the new orchard, the pond with its wildflower planting, the views from the top of the hill. Tickets and Haddon Wood pens, notebooks and postcards are available in the tin tabernacle - a feature in itself with its small renovated garden. The land for our wood was donated to the Woodland Trust and in 2018 the wood will be leased by local people who'll maintain and care for it as it grows and matures into a legacy for the future.

All proceeds to our new 28 acre Haddon Wood, located in the village.
