Submission Criteria
We promote town and village
open gardens events in order to bring people and communities together under the common theme of gardens.
It's not about the money, money, money ...
... so sang Jessie J.
Our core aim puts people and communities first, and fundraising second. If your main aim is simply to raise money, with no real regard for getting people and communities together, then this website isn't for your event.
Focus on Fun, not Fundraising
A great phrase which encapsulates our ethos.
Submitting your Open Gardens event
To appear on this website, your open gardens event needs to:
- be a town or village event rather than an
individual garden.
- have a core aim of bringing people and community together.
- charge no more than £7.00, either on the day or in advance.
- comprise seven or more residential gardens that are in
the same village/town and that open on the same date.
- have as its main focus gardens that will
interest visitors.
- include a clear statement that proceeds go to charities or local good causes.
If your event doesn't meet these requirements, then
it won't be suitable for inclusion here. If you are in any doubt,
just contact us at Open Gardens and we'll do
what we can to advise.
Please do not add:
- Individual gardens
The task of including these is too great for our
volunteer team. To understand our reasoning behind this, read
this.
- NGS Gardens
Please do not add NGS garden events that appear on the NGS website
or in the Yellow Book.
- Stately Home and Country House Gardens
We cannot feature these unless they are taking part in a wider town or village open gardens
event.
Multiple Event Organisers / Remote Organisers
If you organise multiple open garden events which support the same charitable
cause, or if you are a remote organiser, you are welcome to add your event details to this website provided that the event meets the criteria above. An example of a remote organiser is a hospice which organises a number of village open gardens events.
We feel that it
is only fair to ask you to make a nominal donation to support our overheads as do many other organisers who are listed with us.
