Alhampton Open Gardens

This event is resting for 2021
Sorry, but Alhampton Open Gardens isn't running this year. We'll keep you posted about next year's event details when they are known, but in the meantime we include below details from a previous year to remind you about the event

approx 9 gardens opened Alhampton, near Castle Cary, Somerset
Sunday 19th May 2019
1.00pm to 5.00pm

Our gardens range from the child-friendly to the walled garden, to others that are simply beautiful, all hoping to welcome you. One or two gardens you may have already seen have made changes worth looking at. As usual our brilliant bakers will be cooking up a feast to offer fantastic afternoon teas at two venues - if you're not a gardener it's worth a visit for that alone.

Two gardens are opening for the first time, one a listed building with a beautifully landscaped, formal garden; the other a small, tranquil garden with a pond and bridge. Our two famous gardeners - Charles Dowding, author of seven books on organic gardening, has appeared on Gardener's World and writes for various journals and is known for his no-dig method of vegetable growing, and Gert Schley, whose organic and highly individual approach to mixing produce and decorative planting is unique and beautiful, are both open again.

Do take the time to visit our 28 acre Haddon Wood, first planted in 2013 and now starting to look a little more like a wood. We have an orchard, a large pond, and great views from the top of the hill. There are picnic benches if you choose to bring a packed lunch to set you up for the afternoon. Tickets and Haddon Wood merchandise are for sale in the orchard, along with used tree guards, ties and stakes if you're planting a hedge, tree or wood yourself. The land for our wood was donated to the Woodland Trust though our volunteer group mows all the paths, does a great deal of maintenance and is currently removing tree guards from our 12,000 trees.

All proceeds go to the upkeep of our wood.
