Staindrop, south west Durham Sunday 21st June 2026 2.00pm to 5.00pm
Staindrop is an historic village adjacent to Raby Castle and centred on an expansive village green graced by 14 horse chestnut trees planted in 1888 for the jubilee of Queen Victoria. King Cnut granted Staindrop to Durham Priory in 1018.
Hidden behind the houses surrounding the green are some very interesting gardens.
The ancient St Mary’s Parish church (founded 771AD)will be open for guided tours.
There will be a free to enter competition to amuse any young children.
Refreshments may be taken in the beer garden of the Wheatsheaf Inn, while traditional tea and cakes will be served in the Victorian Scarth Hall.
Please note that most gardens involve steps and some uneven paths.
Proceeds Monies raised will go to local causes including the village Christmas lights, the summer carnival, and the parish church.
Cost £5.00 adults, accompanied children free.
